Broken Masks is a New Media artwork that uses the interface of a chat bot to explore the anthropomorphism of the machine in current computer applications. The user is asked a series of philosophical questions by the bot that question both understanding and existence in machine and man. As conversation with the machine progresses, the human mask of the machine gradually breaks away, revealing the underlying ones and zeros of code that exist underneath its human shell.

This project was developed by myself as its sole creator, with models of the degenerating mask developed in Autodesk Maya, and code for both the bot and image processing developed in Java for the web.
