My business The Build Shop contracted work for the interactive attraction OUE Skyspace in the US Bank tower in downtown Los Angeles. I worked hands-on to bring a number of contributions to this attraction including development work on a Unity application touring notable landmarks around the city of Los Angeles, a large switchable edge-lit acrylic sign and the physical fabrication of a lixie clock designed in the style of soviet-made nixie tubes.
The Unity application is currently running on the 69th floor observation deck of the US Bank tower, one of the most notable landmarks of downtown Los Angeles. The application features 16 different screens of unique content on wall-mounted touchscreen displays pointing outward in 360 degrees. The outward facing windows of the observation deck pair with these 16 screens, which feature landmarks viewable from that angle of the viewing platform. This application features hundreds of video footage clips arrayed across a variety of 3D virtual locations.
Our physical fabrication for this exhibit included a large 10 ft wide switching edge-lit acrylic sign at the entrance to the exhibit, a custom lixie countdown timer of edge lit acrylic, and several vive base station tracked digital spray cans. These builds were constructed with durability for extensive use in a live exhibit using our laser cutter capabilities, resin casting, custom electronics design and fabrication, and python code running on a raspberry pi platform, network controlled for synchronization with their 360 theater.
