Bravemind is the award-winning Virtual Reality treatment system for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder developed at ICT under the leadership of Dr. Albert “Skip” Rizzo. This system has been in development and use since the peak of the War in Iraq and Afghanistan and continues to be a valuable tool for therapy treatment deployed in over 60 sites including VA Hospitals, military bases, and university centers. The PTSD treatment method developed by Bravemind revolutionized therapy for these conditions using a process called Exposure Therapy in which patients are presented with a virtual reality world controlled by the therapist that re-exposes them gradually to the circumstances that originally caused their Post-Traumatic Stress. Through this gradual exposure, they can work with the therapist to learn coping mechanisms to handle their triggers in the real world.
Following my work with the Virtual Reality Medical Center in San Diego, I was brought on by Dr. Albert “Skip” Rizzo to work with him on Bravemind. As a small research team, my work spanned several areas including 3D prop art, character art, rigging and animation, as well as design.
