ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS

Rococo Backdrop

Role:

Team Lead

CAD Design - CNC Cutting - Woodworking - Finish Painting

These flats were designed and built for a photo shoot for an ad campaign by the cosmetics company Anastasia Beverly Hills. My company was brought on to produce these backdrops in the extravagant French Rococo style of the Palace of Versailles.

Our theater flat recreation of this ornate style involved a variety of fabrication techniques to simulate the visual look of this gilded woodcarving within the time and cost constraints of a traditional production schedule. Designed in Adobe Illustrator as dozens of smaller puzzle pieces to be assembled into the completed 8 foot flat, the pieces were laser cut and stacked from MDF to create the visual depth needed. The edges were routed to round them off, painted and clear coat for a metallic gold luster, and then assembled into the full construction of the finished theater flat.
